Candle Care

Looking after your Hunter Candles

By following the below guidelines, you’re guaranteed to get the most out of your favourite scents. Hunter Candles are hand-poured using pure soy wax, which is both biodegradable and free from pesticides. Our candles are palm oil free, and contain no genetically modified material or petroleum. We proudly use full fragrance, which is non-toxic and free from petrochemicals, phthalates and parabens.

Burn your candle for a minimum of two hours, or until the wax has melted to the edge of the glass. This helps to imprint the candle’s memory and prevent an uneven burn.

Keep your candle burning gently by trimming the wick to ¼ inch. A wick that’s too long will smoke and burn faster, while a wick that’s too short won’t burn as well. A beautiful even burn is all about balance.

Let your candle cool before relighting, and (of course) before cutting the ball at the end of the wick.

Maintain regular trimming to help keep wick ‘mushrooming’ at bay.

Keep your candles away from direct sunlight and other heat sources. A candle left in direct sunlight may lose its scent and discolour.

If burning a collection of candles together, position them apart to prevent uneven burning.

To keep the burn pool clean, you can gently wash your soy candle with cool water. Ensure it’s completely air-dried before next use.

To avoid a larger flame, never burn your candle for longer than four hours.

Is your candle creating an uneven burn? Simply adjust the wick back to the centre of the jar, or closer to the side that needs more heat.

If black discolouration occurs inside the jar, simply wipe away with a damp cloth.

Never leave your candles unattended, and always keep away from drafts, children and pets.

Always place your candles on a heat-resistant surface that’s stable and level.

It’s normal for the soy wax to change in colour and develop a subtly dusty layer over time. This won’t affect the burn or scent of your beloved candles. Once your final burn is complete, cleaning out your candle jar is (almost) effortless. To remove the remaining wax, simply wipe it out with hot water or place the jar in a freezer for 20 minutes to pop the wax out. Please dispose of excess wax in the bin (and not down the drain!). Once your jar is clean and dry, the possibilities for repurposing are endless.
